Facial Fillers & Lip Injections

Facial filler health facts

  • Facial fillers are gel-like substances that, when injected below the skin, can smooth wrinkles, add more volume and enhance facial features. Fillers are a cost-effective way to achieve a refreshed and rejuvenated look.
  • HealthFit uses facial and lip fillers made with hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a substance that is naturally found in the skin. HA’s main job is to help the skin retain water molecules to keep cells hydrated and plump.
  • Facial filler results are temporary, usually lasting between 12 and 24 months, depending on the filler type, location and amount used.

Facial aging

The face ages differently than the rest of the body. During adolescence and young adulthood, facial features are defined and well contoured, marked by high cheekbones, full cheeks and a defined jawline.

As a person ages into middle and late adulthood, the facial bones change, skin and muscles droop, and fat pads redistribute, usually resulting in less full cheeks and a “double chin.” As we age, the body naturally stops producing as many oils as it used to, which results in less moisture in the skin. We also lose collagen and elastin, which contributes to the formation of deep lines and wrinkles.

Learn how we can help get rid of your double chin with Kybella.

Volbella lip injection

Volbella is a lip injection used to both fill in fine lines around the mouth and restore lip volume lost with age. We also use Volbella to enhance naturally thin lips.

Our goal is to keep lips natural looking and to not over fill them. In most women, the ideal ratio of the lips in keeping with a natural look is 1:1.6, meaning the lower lip is about 60 percent larger than the top.

Volbella filler results usually last about one year. Both Volbella and Juvéderm Ultra are used to achieve fuller lips. Volbella lip injection is less dense and better for people who already have fuller lips and want a subtle change. Juvéderm Ultra is denser and is better for patients with naturally thin lips.

Uses for Volbella:

  • Plump the lips.
  • Smooth lip lines.

Risks & side effects of facial fillers & lip injections

The most common side effects of facial fillers and lip fillers are injection-site redness, swelling and bruising, lumps, discoloration and tenderness. Most of these symptoms go away within one to two weeks. As with all skin procedures, there is a risk of infection.

Following the provider’s aftercare instructions will minimize the risk.

A very rare complication with facial fillers is unintentional injection into a blood vessel, which blocks blood flow to the area that blood vessel supplies. This complication will cause the skin around the area to turn white and may be painful. The filler can be dissolved or reversed to unblock the blood vessel.
